My all time favorite Tv show is Grey's Anatomy. I make sure that I watch it every Thursday or if something comes up and I can’t watch it I go online the next day and watch the episode that I missed. Grey’s Anatomy is a show that is taped in a hospital and it shows the different patients that come into the hospital. They tell you what is wrong with the patients and you get to see how they treat them or watch the surgeries that they perform. I want to work in a hospital when I receive my degree so I think this show is perfect for me to watch and see how they do everything. All the surgeries and things they do seem like they are actually performing them.
It also has drama between the employees and the problems that they go through on a day to day bases which makes it interesting because we all know that things happen to all of us at one point in our life. All of these reasons makes me want to watch it over and over again to find out what happens next. I think in one way or another everyone is able to relate to the show so that makes it interesting.
Everything in the show is like what goes on in a real hospital except you get to know all the details and see how they try to fix each problem that occurs throughout the hospital. All the problems that occur are problems that im sure happen everyday in everyone’s local hospital. I also like watching shows like scrubs, ER and occasionally House; which are shows that are along the same set up as Grey’s Anatomy

College is a big change from high school. I was so excited to finally get into college not expecting how tough it was going to be. The classes I have taken so far this year have just been general classes that everyone pretty much has to take but they are required for my degree choice, nursing. It is kinda of difficult getting into the classes that I want being a freshman. I have taken all classes that I will eventually need to take but they were not my first choice. Being a freshman also means that you can get stuck with a crappy schedule. I hate to take a night class which I did not enjoy at all. I would never take a night class again.
I was really shocked when I started enjoying some of my classes that I thought I would hate taking. Psychology did not sound very interesting to me and I was not thrilled about taking that class at all. After the first week of class I realized how much that psychology is involved in everyone’s life. I plan on taking another psychology class because it was something I enjoyed learning and I feel that is what college is all about.
I really enjoyed biology in high school but taking it in college was not as fun for me. I have completed one chemistry class. I really enjoyed my first chemistry class especially the lab. I love doing hands on work, I feel I learn a lot more than just going to a lecture or reading a book. I decided to take a second chemistry class and enjoy it also.

Freshman Year

I have wanted to be nurse for a long time. I never knew how hard it could be to get into a nursing program. There have been many obstacles that I have been through this year. Being a freshman in college, everything is new to me, so it has been hard getting use to the college life.
During high school I was so excited to get out and have more freedom then I had in high school. I was excited to be able to go to class if I wanted to, study and do what I want when I wanted. The first quarter in college I thought was no big deal. I skipped class a few times. I didn’t study for a few quizzes. I stayed out late not to worried about class because I thought I would be able to be fine not studying like I was in high school. I was able to take a test and pass it fine. This effected my biology class the most. There was so much new information that I had not previously learned.
I got a 60 percent on my first exam. I wasn’t to worried about it because we had 3 exams and a final. For the second exam I went to a friend’s house before and we went over the study guide, so I figured I would be fine since we went over the study guide and I knew that information. The exam ended up having only a few of the questions which contained the information that was in the review. Therefore I didn’t do to well on the second exam either. I received another 60 percent. I kept telling myself I would study real hard for the next exam and go to every class and make sure that I stayed all class. I started getting real bored during lecture and would leave at the break. I just told myself I would study later that night the information they were going over during the half of the lecture I would miss. I didn’t end up studying later those nights because I would go out with my friends and have a better time doing that then I would be studying. Still, I did not really care about my grade in the class because I didn’t think I was doing that bad.
When it was time to take the third exam, I went and studied with my friend again. We went over the review sheet, Making sure we filled it all out and knew the information on it, of course we didn’t look at the other information that was included because it just took so long to do the review sheet and it always got late. She worked till about 9 every night so by the time I would get over there and we would study it would start to get real late. The class was at 8 in the morning which didn’t help me at all. I am not a morning person. I would set my alarm to get up early to study some more but would always want to sleep a bit more instead. I would plan to get up early and study before I would leave for class but always fell back asleep. On my third exam, I did worse then my first two; I got a 58 percent. I knew I would not do well in the class but I couldn’t change anything from that point.
Biology consisted of having a lecture and lab. We had two exams in lab also which would count towards our grade. I didn’t do too bad on either of those exams so I figured those would help out my grade. They didn’t help out my grade too much, just a little bit. I liked going to lab and had fun which helped me want to go to class. Before the final, I went and studied with my friend again and we went over the practice exam that we got. We also had a review sessions in class, and I studied a bit by myself at home. I never figured out what I got on my final but it was prolly around the same grades I had been getting. I received a D+ in the class; Which is not good at all. The grade I received in this

This summer I am trying to get a job at a hospital. I have put in my application to Grant and Riverside hospitals and I am also putting in my application at the local hospital, Licking Memorial. I liked volunteering at the hospital so much and had fun so I figured why not try and get paid for doing the same thing I have done at the hospital already.
I would rather work here at the local hospital so I don’t have to drive all the way to Columbus with gas prices being kinda high. I know many people at Licking Memorial already considering I volunteered there and my mother works there also. Im trying to get a job that will benefit me in the long run.
Working at a hospital does not have a lot of opportunities for someone who is not certified in anything or who does not have a degree but there are a few. I am trying my best to stay away from being a cafeteria worker but my mom has told me many times is all about getting your "foot in the door" and then it is easier to switch jobs once you have work experience there.
If neither place has a job opportunity for me or does not hire me im going to look into working at a local nursing home or somewhere local that has the same kinda of atmosphere. I don’t really like the thought of working in a nursing home, but it will be a job and im sure I can get use to working at one if I needed to.

For every career it is nice to have some kinda of volunteer work. Having volunteer work looks good on applications for a job or an application into a program. Last year I wanted to start volunteering somewhere I knew that would help me out in the long run with the career choice I wanted. I finally decided I wanted to try volunteering at Licking Memorial Hospital. I was able to start volunteering in the pharmacy. It was the best experience for me. I was able to see how the machines work for ordering medication, I would deliver medication to all the different floors around the hospital so I learned my way around the hospital. I thought hospitals were so confusing until I started finding my way around. I was able to talk to many different nurses and see what it is like to work in a hospital atmosphere.
After volunteering there I decided I would want to work in a hospital atmosphere. I loved going to all the floors and interacting with all the people there. I learned a lot about different medications and how the system works for ordering and receiving the medications. Knowing all this will help me out if I work in a hospital after I receive my degree and will look good on any application. I never thought that I would like volunteering but I loved going there learning new things and being with all the people that I got to know. If I were to work there I would already know a lot of people who work there and I think I would be able to fit right in.
